The annual meeting of the Oklahoma Historical Society convened at 10:00 o’clock a. m., Wednesday, January 23, 1929, in the
Capitol, with the following present:

A. M. Baldwin, Mrs. George Rainey, Judge C. Ross Hume, Frank Rush, Willie Williams, Harry Edge, Willie Weller, Thomas Keyes,
Henry Inkanish, James Inkanish, Thomas Carter, and William Curtis.
The Secretary read the following certificate as to election of directors for the ensuing five year term:
To the President and members of the Oklahoma Historical Society, in session this the 23rd day of January, 1929,
As provided in the amended constitution of the Oklahoma Historical Society, Sec. 2, Art. 3, providing for the election of
five directors at the annual meeting of said society, to fill vacancies of those whose term of office expires at the annual
meeting, the last clause of which reads as follows:
"Provided further, that in instances where only five names are hereunder placed on such ballot same shall not be mailed out,
but such fact certified jointly by the secretary and treasurer to the next annual meeting, and said five members by such meeting
declared elected."
In compliance with the amendment above quoted, we hereby certify the names of R. L. Williams, J. S. Buchanan, Charles F. Colcord,
Grant Foreman and Mrs. Frank Lucas, the same to be declared elected for a term of five years.

This 23d day of January, 1929.
Moved that the report of the election be ratified and adopted and that R. L. Williams, J. S. Buchanan, Charles F. Colcord,
Grant Foreman and Mrs. Frank Lucas be declared elected as directors to serve for five years. Motion was seconded and unanimously
carried.
The report of the secretary was read and included the reports of Mrs. Czarina C. Conlan, field collector. Mrs. Florence E.
Hurt, file clerk and Ruth Woolman the librarian. The minutes were approved as read.

Under the head of communications were read the following by the secretary:
A letter from John G. Long, of Antlers, Oklahoma, presenting to the Society a certified copy of a resolution passed by the
Mississippi Legislative Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Mississippi, approbating the conduct of Pushmataha,
a Choctaw Chief, in their late war with the Creeks, one county in Oklahoma being named for this Choctaw Chief Pushmataha.
A vote of thanks was extended to Mr. Long for his interest in securing this copy for the Historical Society.
A letter was also read from Mr. Lincoln McKinlay, of Wichita, Kansas and a tribute to the old settlers of Oklahoma from Frank
C. Orner, of Goodnight, Okla.
It was moved that these two last communications be published in Chronicles. Motion was seconded and carried.
The treasurer submitted her report, which was accepted.
Judge J. Ross Hume, of Anadarko, was called upon to address the assembly on the Caddo Indians. At the conclusion of his remarks
he called upon the delegation of Caddoes, who accompanied him, introduced them and through their leader they presented to
the Society for safe keeping the following documents:
A certificate signed by Sam Houston, president of the Republic of Texas, 1843,
A certificate of Coyote, 1842,
A certificate by James K. Polk, president of the, U. S. to Jose’ Maria, Anadarko, 1845,
A letter by Jesse Stem, agent in Texas for Indians, 1853,
A letter by G. W. Hill, agent in Texas, 1853,
A letter by G. W. Hill, 1854.
Mrs. Moore moved that we express our thanks to the Oklahoma State Federation of Women’s Clubs and other patriotic organizations
for their interest and support in the proposed building. Motion was seconded and carried, and the secretary was instructed
to prepare a letter and send to these organizations, including Judge Meserve, president of the Oklahoma Society of Sons of
the American Revolution.
Meeting recessed until 2:00 p. m.
Meeting was called to order at 2:00 p. m., by the vice-president, Judge Thomas H. Doyle.
Hon. Dennis T. Flynn presented to the Society a large silk flag which had been given to him by the women of Woods County,
Oklahoma, in appreciation of his efforts in securing the passage of the "Free Homes" bill in Congress.
Judge Williams moved that the same be accepted. Motion was seconded by Judge Ledbetter and Mrs. Alice Beitman Heaney, the
latter having homesteaded in the territory affected by this bill. A rising vote of thanks was taken, same being unanimous.
Judge R. L. Williams read his amendment to Section 1, Art. VI, as follows: The annual meeting of the Society shall be held
at the Capitol of the State on the Thursday immediately following the fourth Wednesday in January of each year, and moved
its adoption. Motion was seconded and carried.
Judge Williams read his amendment to Sec. 2. Art. V, as follows: Meetings of the Board of Directors of the Society shall be
held on the Thursday immediately following the fourth Wednesday of January of

each year, and quarterly thereafter during the year, and moved its adoption. Motion was seconded and unanimously adopted.
Judge Williams read his amendment to Sec. 7, Art. 11, as follows: The Life Membership fee shall be $25.00, and moved its adoption.
Motion was seconded.
Judge Williams read his amendment to Sec. 2 of the By-Laws by adding subdivision "d" as follows: A committee consisting of
three members, including the secretary of the Society, the duties of which shall be to arrange suitable exercises in each
county of the state in which as many as five active members of the Society shall reside, to observe days representing historical
events, in conjunction with other organizations in the state who will join therein, and moved its adoption. Motion was seconded
and carried.
Mrs. Jessie R. Moore gave notice that she would at the next annual meeting present an amendment to the Constitution setting
aside the present method of electing the Board of Directors and adopt the method originally provided in the Constitution adopted
in 1922.
Judge Williams gave notice that he would at the next annual meeting present an amendment to the Constitution requiring a referendum
on all future amendments of the Constitution and by-laws.
Moved that the March number of Chronicles contain a list of all new members, elected since the June, 1928 number of Chronicles
was published. Motion was seconded and carried.
Judge Williams moved that we express to our president, Mr. Charles F. Colcord, our sympathy in his illness and our appreciation
of his work, in trying to secure a new building for the Society. Motion was seconded and unanimously carried, and the secretary
was instructed to prepare the letter.
Judge Baxter Taylor moved that a building committee of seven be named consisting of Judge R. L. Williams, chairman: Judge
Thns. H. Doyle, vice-chairman; Judge Phil. D. Brewer, Colonel W. S. Key. jasper Sipes, D. W. Peery and Judge W. A. Ledbetter
to serve with the State Board of Affairs in the matter of the new building for the Historical Society. Motion was seconded
and unanimously carried, Judge Taylor putting the motion to a vote.
The Annual Meeting adjourned.

MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors convened following the close of the annual meeting of the Oklahoma Historical Society, with the following
members present:
Judge Thomas H. Doyle, Vice-President, presiding in the absence of the President; Judge R. L. Williams, Mrs. John R. Williams,
Mrs. Jessie R. Moore, Judge Baxter Taylor, D. W. Perry, Col A. N. Leecraft, W. A. Dursnt. Mrs. Frank Korn, Mrs. J. R. Frazier,

Judge Williams moved that the present help be continued to the end of the fiscal year at the same salaries now paid, insofar
as the appropriation will permit. Motion was seconded and carried.
Mrs. Frazier moved that one copy of the magazine be sent to members after their dues become delinquent and they be notified
and then if dues are not paid that they then be dropped. Motion was seconded and carried.
Judge Williams moved that a registry book be purchased for the annual meeting and that it be kept as a part of the records
of the Society. Motion was seconded and carried.
The Secretary read the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Directors held January 25, 1928, which were approved as read.
The Secretary read the minutes of the meeting of the Board of Directors held May 1, 1928, which were approved as read.
Judge Williams moved that $1000 be set aside to pay for the March and June (1929) issues of Chronicles and that $1000 be set
aside to pay for the September and December (1929) issues of Chronicles. Motion was seconded.
Judge Taylor moved to amend that the sums be raised to $1200 in each case, which was accepted and the motion carried.
