My dear friend–

Ah-ker
grew rather better this morning,
but was still quite sick.
We telegraphed ahead and a
Doctor met us at Pittsburgh.
He gave a stronger mustard
plaster and a sedative. I
took the most opportune moment
I could select this morning to
renew our claim, but met the
same answer. The mother would
not part with her sick child.
God must intend it so. We
have every reason to accept what
is as his will. I went farther
than you and said that "She
shall be with my Marion all

the time. They shall go to school
together." but it did not change
her resolution.

The baggage had gone
forward in a former section of
the same train and I was
unable to get it until we
arrived at Columbus, O. and
then had to bring it on to
Urbana from which point
I expressed it to you at
Syracuse. Find $2.⁰⁰ enclosed
to pay charges.

We arrived here at one
o'clock (noon) and I write you
at once. The Indians had the
usual "20 minutes for dinner."
We had our parting before the train
stopped. There were many
tears of which I can speak
to you dear friend. God
bless and keep them all. I
know His spirit dwells with
some.

I felt sorry I did not so arrange
it and go with you to Syracuse.
What a brave heart you had.
Things rushed upon me so I
did ^not look ahead with the same
concern I looked back. I
lifted my heart for you when
I saw your concern. I depended
so strongly on God that I felt no
apprehension. Never in my life
before have I felt so much the
force of "The righteous are as bold
as a lion."

Relieved of my cares I
feel that I must look out in
full and at once the new field
that ripens up before me, and this
shall be my rest. Seeming
enemies melt into the most
earnest friendship, and my
greatest concern is of my own
capacity and worthiness.

I know I shall hear from
you soon. Heaven grant that all

Pray for me, as I do for
you, in this new untried field.
And the Lord guide us both
to the plain knowing and
doing of His will.

who is brother to M.M. and he
had best have it.
