Center post office, Oklahoma County, was established March 24, 1890. On page 155, Vol. 6, No. 2. Chronicles of Oklahoma, William D. H. Shockey, is listed as postmaster. It should be W. L. Whisler. On page 442. Vol. 6, No. 4, Whisler, discontinued July 18, 1904, effective July 30, 1904. Center post office was changed shortly after its establishment, to Whisler, and W. L. Whisler was continued as postmaster until the post office was discontinued. This change was necessary because of the fact that in the Chickasaw Nation there was a post office known as Center. this Chickasaw office, however, was established June 9, 1890, after the Center office, in Oklahoma County, was established in March 24, 1890. The correct record will show there was but one Postmaster at Center, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, and when it was changed to Whisler, W. L. Whisler remained Postmaster until it was discontinued as above stated.
